Bredenbury Court Groom Portrait

It's All About The Bride

I always cringe when any photographer writes a caption on their website or on instagram that starts 'it's all about....' because weddings aren't all about anything. There's so much going on all day, and no one thing or one person (should) be dominant. That being said, it is quite easy to focus more on the bride than the groom (at heterosexual weddings) and it's important to photograph both sides of the wedding party if the chance arises before the ceremony. It's about the groom almost as much as it's about the bride. I spend on average 4 hours with the bridal party before the wedding, and maybe 20 minutes with the groom and groomsmen, so they don't quite get the same length of time to get used to my presence.

Assuming it's dry, Bredenbury Court has endless possibilities for photo locations. There's a lovely spot under some trees that I tend to use for my groom/groomsmen portraits pre-wedding, and crucially it's not a mile from the ceremony room so the groom doesn't have enough time to get nervous! Oliver, who was marrying Charlotte (who features in the previous image unless I've rearranged the photos on my website and have inadvertently paired him up with someone else) looks absolutely awesome in his double-breasted waistcoat. I did shots of all of the groomsmen individually before doing a classic walking image. It wasn't that much of a set up - they were walking back to the venue (bar) anyway, and I took some photos as they moved.
