Two groomsmen tie their ties

I don't know what it is about tying ties. I can go all sorts of knots, until someone is looking at me. And even when no one is looking at me, for whatever reason, I am completely useless at tying my own tie unless for some reasons, I'm looking at myself in the mirror. It's somehow the same as doing up your shoelaces but at the same time, not doing up your shoelaces - if you're doing up your shoes, you can look at your shoe, or do it just by feel, and at the end of the exercise you're left with a shoe that's tied up. Not so with ties. You'd think they'd be the same processes, but they aren't. I can tie a tie when I'm staring at myself in the mirror. But I could not do a tie if my life depended on it if there wasn't a mirror to stare into aimlessly. I'm not sure how it helps.
