The Deer Park deer and I have an interesting relationship. At least that's what the venue staff will tell you. When it comes to deer in wedding pictures, I prefer them slightly further back than the majority of other photographers like to have them. Not because I'm a coward, or that I've been left mentally scarred by the two times the same deer (Dave) chased me out of the field and left me without a camera for 20 minutes, but because I like them to add to my wedding photos, not to dominate them. Or myself.
The sunsets at Deer Park are usually dramatic like a Rembrandt painting, but even with this high expectation I was surprised by the one we got for this wedding. The light was a gorgeous gold that slowly turned a pinky-orange, and the clouds were thick and dark and full of contrast. The couple were quite happy with my suggestion to stand precariously on a slightly wet log, and the deer didn't chase me out of the field. It was win-win-win.
Dave was shot in 2024, so I guess I won in the end. Suck it, Dave.
